Upcoming Books

I have just posted the upcoming books. They appear right below the picture of Maplewood Library.

Next month we are reading the last in the Million series. The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larrson. Then in February we will each be bringing our favorite Knitting book. It can be a fiction, pattern, cartoon, or short stories.

In March we will start taking turns with our favorite book or author. Pauline wants to pick the next book in her stack that she wants to read. That would beThe Girls From Ames by Jeffrey Zaslow. There are many copies but you might want to start now getting on the list or reading your own copy. I'm still interested in what her favorite book I'll let you know when learn what it is.

So check the list and request them from the library so you can have read it before the meeting.

Special Olympics

Several people are knitting the Red Heart scarves for the Special Olympics. They need to be brought to the February 8th Knit-Lit meeting so Pauline can mail them off.

Since the scarves are due at the February we are going move our slipper Knit-A-Long to March. So to the March meeting bring your slippers. Any pattern.

We started picking our upcoming books. We are all going to take turns picking our favorite book and we will all read it.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Winter Wonderland

We are all snowed in and I hope all getting extra knitting time.

This coming Tuesday all who want to are bring treats to nibble on while we knit and talk about this months book.

Don't feel like you have to bring anything or even have read the book. Just bring your knitting and join us for our Holiday meeting.

Sunday, December 5, 2010

Just a reminder that we are going to bring treats to our December meeting to celebrate Christmas.

Our book for this month is The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson.

I started our knit-a-long slippers but I forgot them at work so I didn't get to work on them this weekend. How are you coming on your slippers?

See you on the 14th.

Hope your Thanksgiving weekend was filled with lots of food, family and yarn. I got to spend three days with my sisters, nieces and great nieces. Adorable Great Nephew and Nephews too.

In just a couple of days it will be December. Knit-Wits will be meeting at our regular time and place. Thursday December 2nd at 6:00 ish. Panera on 35E and County road E.

How are you all doing on your knit-a-along slippers. I bought the yarn and pattern but hope to do a swatch today.

Annie Modesitt

Last Tuesday at the Minnesota Knitters Guild Annie Modessitt came and talked about how she designs from historical paintings. Her historical patterns are the subject of the book she is working on now. She explained her history with Combination knitting. I bought her book Knit With Courage Live With Hope which chronically her first year living here in the Twin Cities as she made frequent trips to Mayo while dealing with an illness. Also bought her other book Confessions of a Knitting Heretic. Both books look interesting and I look forward to reading them both.

Three of us went to Kelly's Knittervention last Friday night and had a great time. I bought the yarn for my Knit-A-Long slippers. Kelly hosts an open knitting night at her shop on the third Friday night of the month. We all bring snack to share as we knit and gab. I don't think we will be able to make the December one but plan to be back up there in January.

November Meeting

All those of us that read the November book really liked it.

At the November meeting we talked about Double Ewe Knitting Shop and were it is. The address is9201 Lexington Ave N #10Circle Pines, Mn 55014 763-780-2465. There website is
double-ewe-yarn.com so look them up and see all that is going on at Kelly's shop.

We also talked about Rebecca Danger and her cute monsters. Her website is rebeccadanger.typepad.com. You can see her Monsters and read her blog. From there you can et to her etsy and see all the Monsters patterns she has for sale. My sister is knitting up a monster without a pattern but just getting inspiration from the site. Me I would need a pattern. My sister is a lot more creative than I am.

No Knit-Wits until December 2nd. But a punch of us go to The Minnesota Knitters Guild meetings on the Third Tuesday of the month. There website with information about them is kitters.org. Hope to see some of you there.

November Meeting

At November's meeting we are going to kick off our winter Knit-A-Long. In the last few years we have either done a yarn exchange or knit-a-long. This year we are going to knit slippers. You can knit any pattern with any kind of yarn. Then in February bring your slippers and we will take a group picture. Bring your favorite slipper pattern if you have one or we will just kick around ideas at our November Meeting.

I am just about finished with our November book Samurai's Garden. It is such a surprisingly great book. Carol said it was the best love story she had even read and I think she is right.

After we finish up the two Millionan books and the "Your Favorite Knitting Book" we thought we would take turns reading a different members favorite book each month. As a book club it would be fun to get to know our knit friends better by reading their favorite book. So although this is months off be thinking about what your favorite book is.

See you this coming Tuesday 6:00 at the Maplewood Library.

Becky Came For A Visit

Becky and Michelle were in town for a wedding and I got to spend a little time with them. We got together at the Maplewood Library for a little chatting and knitting. Becky as usual was working on a sock. She is loving her job at the Library in Baltimore. Every Thursday a bunch of co-workers get together over their lunch to knit. Michelle is working for Wells Fargo and doing her artistic thing. It was too short but such a blessing to spend some time with both of them

September Meeting

Our September meeting we had great food and cake that Pauline's mom brought for Pauline's O birthday. I'm not sure if she wants the world to know which O it is. She told us at the meeting so for the inside scoop you have to come to the meetings.

Next month we are reading The Girl With A Pearl Earing by Tracy Chevalier. I have finished it and it is a really good book. I did a little research on the painter that painted the real Girl With A Pearl Earing and it seems to stay true to the painters life and paintings.

In February for our book we are all going to bring our Favorite Knitting Magazine or Pattern Book so be thinking about what is your favorite.

Now that the days are shorter and cool weather is sitting in hope you are all enjoying your knitting even more.

August Meeting

The August meeting will be at the normal time of 6:00 but we are meeting in the conference room. That is the room that is just to the right of the librarian's information desk.

We are discussing Stalking Susan by Julie Kramer. I just started the third one in that series and am enjoying it.

Saturday, July 17, 2010

July Meeting

We had a great discussion about the book The Help. We had a couple of new people who came to check out what we thought about the book. They are going to do it in their book group in a few months. I think they both knit and may be back.

Next month we will be reading Stalking Susan by Julie Kramer. Remember that although we will be meeting on the second Tuesday at our normal time of 6:00 we will be meeting in the Conference Room instead of the meeting room.

June Meeting

June is here and soon school will be out. I love sitting outside and reading a good book. In Minnesota we have such few nice days it always seems like such a treat to read outside.

Our June meeting will be at Maplewood Library at 6:00. This months book is The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith.

Hope to see you all there and if it's nice maybe we can sit outside to knit and chat about the book.

Three Cups Of Tea

We had a great book discussion last night as we knit. I hadn't finished the book but am plugging away again today after hearing what everyone else had to say. There were several of us that hadn't finished but we all had lots to say.

Pauline has returned and her mom shared a picture of her knitting on a mountain. We then got to see the socks that she was knitting on the mountain. It is nice to have her home safe and sound.

Chris and Robyn shared about there classes at Yarn Over. Chris, Carol, Bridgette and Robyn had a great time at Shepard's Harvest last Saturday. It really is more fun going to knitting events with friends.

Our next Knit-Wits meeting will be on the 27th at Panera on County Road E and 35E. Hope to see you there.

Knit-Wits

Just a reminder that the Knit-Wits now meet at the Parana on County Road E and 35E.

Still the same 1st and 4th Thursday. Usually people start showing up at 6:00, but come when you can and leave when you must.

Knit-Wits Move

This coming Thursday we meet for our 4th Thursday of the month Knit-Wit meeting. We will be moving our meets to the Panera it at 35E and County Road E. It is in the little strip mall across from the Target parking lot. We will be meeting at our regular 6:30 time. Several of us get there at 6:00 and have supper.

April's Change

We read something other than a knitting book and we didn't have prepared questions. We all liked the Guernsey book and will recommend it to friends. All thought it was a nice change from just reading knitting books. There were questions at the book we did read so that was a nice transition book.

In May we will be reading Three Cups Of Tea by Greg Mortenson. I hear great things about it. He has a sequel to it and we would love to hear about it too if someone has read it.

Change

At our March meeting we decided to change the format a bit. We will still read, meet and talk about what have read. The difference will be that we will be reading a variety of books and there will be no prepared questions.

The book for April 13th we will be reading The Guernsey Library ad Potato Peal Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer. Several of us have read the book and thought it was really good.

See you in April.

Metal Award

Several people finished their Olympic project and received their Gold Metal at the March Meeting. Chris had the most difficult event. She finished a 5 year UFO.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Today

Just a reminder that Knit-Lit is today. Not doing a book but instead doing show and share about our Olympic knitting project.

Think about what is your favorite book because we are going to discuss changing the format a bit. We would pick books (not having to be knitting related) and then discussing them without a designated person to have prepared questions ahead of time.

See you tonight.

2010 Olympics

It was great to get together and knit while watching the Olympics on the 16th. Chris hosted and we all enjoyed the top your own baked potato she made. Thanks again Chris for having us. We all won the Gold medal in the Group Knitting competition.

Since I think everyone has been busy knitting and watching the Olympics they might not have gotten to the March book. I would like to say that I was reading and watching the Olympics. However I was playing with my new puppy so I didn't get to the book. So the March meeting will be a bring your Olympic knitting for show and tell. Mine will not be done so bring yours anyway.

In April I will lead the discussion for the book Framed In Lace by Monica Ferris. May we will do the next Monica Ferris book, A Stitch In Time. Chris will lead that discussion. We still need someone to lead the June discussion.

Happy Knitting and I hope you enjoy the rest of the Olympics.

Becky has also joined our Olympic team for the Ravelry Olimpics.

Knit-A-Long Hats

Olympics

Someone mentioned that it would be fun to work on our Olympic project together and watch the Olympics games at the same time. So Chris has opened her home so we can do just that. We are going to meet at Chris' on February 16th. We haven't decided on the time and will give out instructions at the next meeting. Also at the February meeting we will find out what she would like people to bring to go along with what she is fixing. As always you don't have to knit or bring anything just come and watch the Olympics with us. Hope to see you there.

February Meeting

Remember to bring your hats so I can get a picture of all of them together.

February 9th Stephanie will lead the discussion of Stitch'N Bitch Nation by Debbie Stoller.

Then starting in March we are going to Move through the Monica Ferris series. Last July we did her first book Crewel World.

If we hear of any interesting books we can just slot them in between Monica's.

Olympics

We are going to the Olympics. Chris is signing us up on Ravelry as a team. If you have not signed up for the team go to Ravelry and on our group page there is a message. You can just respond and type in your name. Chris will check it. I know that teams had to be signed up by the 15th but not sure how long you can add people to the team. Thanks Chris for getting us ready for the Olympics.

Our group is very loose. You can do any project or plan to finish a project. You must not start before February 12th at 8:00 pm our time. You must finish by February 28th when they finish. You can swatch ahead of time.

Our next meeting is before the Olympics so we can share what our project is.

January 8th

Do not ask Stephani about September 4th. Spoke too soon. The take away is do not repeat what is on Facebook, I will not repeat happy news.

January

Tomorrow we Knit-Wits are back meeting the First and Fourth Thursday of the month at Cafe Cravings in White Bear. It is on County Road E not to far east of Highway 61. I know it is cold but I plan to be there.

Then this coming Tuesday we are meeting on our regular Second Tuesday of the month and our regular place in the meeting room of Maplewood Library. We will knit and talk about Knit Two by Kate Jacobs. I have no memory at all of who is leading.

Next month in February we will be Doing the Stitch'N Bitch Nation by Debbie Stroller. Stephani will be leading that month. If you aren't on face book with Stephani be sure and ask her about September 4th.

Hope to see you all Tuesday if not tomorrow.
