December Meeting

Our December book is A Farewell to Yarns by Jill Church. We are bring treats to share.

At our December meeting we are going to be voting on the next series we want to finish. The two we thought that have been popular enough to have several copies in the library are Maggie Sefton's or Monica Ferris'. We have read two of Maggie Sefton's But Monica Ferris has a longer series.

Just a remender that you don't have to have read the book, be knitting or bring a treat. We would love to have you just come and chat with us while we knit.

November Meeting

At our November meeting we did not have we didn't discuss the book much but had a great time catching up on what is new with our knitting.

Next week is Minnesota Knitters Guild meeting. It is at 7:00 at the Textile Center on University Ave. in St. Paul. The subject is Norwegian Knitting. There web site is knitters.org.

The Knit-A-Long hat pattern was passed out. We plan to do this in January. You can start, finish or just think about starting it in January. At the January meeting Chris will answer any questions if you are having problems.

At our December meeting we decided to bring treats.

We will also discuss if we want to do treats at our December meeting or just have a regular meeting.

October Meeting

Our October meeting was a small group but we had a very enjoyable meeting.

During the meeting we talked about doing our first knit-a-long. Every one thought it was a good idea so the pattern will be handed out at the November meeting and each meeting after that. We thought January would be a good time for this since it would be after the busy holidays but still cold out.

Nora Murphy

Nora Murphy the author of Knitting the Treads of Time came to Knit-Lit. It was a fun surprise to have her just show up. It is always great to discuss a book but it was the best to discuss it with the author. She read from her book and answered all our questions.

Nora also was one of the authors of Twelve Branches: Stories From St. Paul. She is currently working on another book about her family immigrating from Ireland.

A big thank you to Nora for coming to discuss her book with us.

We are reading Knitting the Threads of Time by Nora Murphy.

As always you don't have to read the book or even bring your knitting if you don't want to.

Hope you are all enjoying the long weekend.

August Meeting

This Tuesday the 11th is our August meeting. Like always we will meet at 6:00 in the meeting room of Maplewood Library. This month we are reading The Knitting Circle. See the upcoming Books Section of the Blog.

I have heard that the September book Knitting The Threads of Time takes a little longer to get through than you might think. So you might want to start it early.

Hope you all are been enjoying the rain and getting lots of extra knitting in.

See you Tuesday.

July Meeting

We were happy to welcome two new Knit-Lit people last Tuesday at our July meeting. As always it was nice to see and get caught up on what every one is knitting. Debbie and Mary Jo had made a bunch of adorable owls. They make the cutest knitted animals but these owls were really great.

Tuesday July 21st is the Minnesota Knitters Guild annual summer picnic. The picnic is always in the same room we always meet in so we are never bothered by the weather or bugs. On the third Tuesday of the month we meet at the Textile Center on University Ave. Every one is always welcome. Please plan for extra time to get there with 280 closed.

With all the cool weather I hope you get lots of extra knitting time.

Our Next meeting will be August 11th at 6:00 in the meeting room of Maplewood Library. We will be reading The Knitting Circle but you don't have to read the book to come and join us as we talk about the book and knit.

Knit-Wits

We all know what knit means but get a load of what wit means:
–noun
1. the keen perception and cleverly apt expression of those connections between ideas that awaken amusement and pleasure.
2. speech or writing showing such perception and expression.
3. a person having or noted for such perception and expression.
4. understanding, intelligence, or sagacity; astuteness.
5. Usually, wits.
a. powers of intelligent observation, keen perception, ingenious contrivance, or the like; mental acuity, composure, and resourcefulness: using one's wits to get ahead.
b. mental faculties; senses: to lose one's wits

A few of us who have been buying a lot of yarn lately thought maybe it was time to get together and knit instead of shop. At the May meeting it seemed that Thursday was a better nights So a bunch of us from Knit-Lit got together on a couple of Thursdays at a couple of different places to knit. At our June Meeting the group seemed to like Cravings in White Bear Lake the best. It is just off of 61 a little east on County Road E. A good time for all seems to be 6:30.

The Knit-Wits will meet on the 1st and 4th Thursday of the month at Cravings in White Bear Lake.

A member of our group has a dad that had been calling us the Knit-Wits and I loved that name for our subgroup. Anyone can come when they want and leave when they must. There will be no book to read. Just knitting with other knitters. Some of us have dinner some just come for dessert.

Hope to see you on Thusday June 25th at 6:30.

June Meeting

Our June meeting was our last Thursday meeting for the year. For the rest of the year we will be meeting on the second Tuesday of the month.

We had 12 people at our June meeting as we discussed The Free Range Knitter by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. There were great questions and it helped us get to know each other better.

Several of us got out and knit on National Knit In Public Day this year and maybe we could all get together and knit someplace next year.

Hope you are all out knitting in the beautiful weather.

May Meeting

At the May we talked about meeting on the First and Fourth Thursday of the month. Those of us who do Knit-Lit and MKG thought it would be fun to have time to knit with each other on our off weeks. Thursday seemed to work out for most of the people. We also thought it would be fun to meet someplace besides the library. We love the library but it would be nice not to have to set up and take down. The two most likely places seemed to be Cafe Cravings on County Road E and Panera on White Bear Ave. So Thursday the 28th those that want to are going to meet at Cafe Cravings on County Road E at 6:30, or when you can. Then on Thursday the 4th of June those that can will meet at the Panera on White Bear Avenue also at 6:30. Then at our June meeting we would talk about which we like best.

At the June meeting we will be knitting and talking about Free Range Knitter.

March Meeting

During the March Meeting it was fun to see the Knit-Lit Friendship Scarves that had been finished and those that were in progress.

During the meeting we discussed upcoming books and instead of voting in April, like we usually do, we just through out book titles and we went with those. You will find them posted in the upcoming books section.

March Meeting

Have you started your Friendship knitting project? If so bring it to the March meeting for show and share. I just finished my Friendship Scarf. I didn't use all the yarn so I may make a hat or something else to go with it.

March 10th we will be discussing A Good Yarn by Debbie Macomber.

Hope to see you there.

February Metting

There were 14 of us that made it to our February meeting. Stephani was great at leading us in our discussion of The Knitting Goddess. It was the perfect book for her since she is a Knitting Goddess.

About 12 of us participated in the Knit-Lit Friendship Scarf yarn exchange. It was fun to have so many new yarns. I have started my scarf and look forward to seeing what other people do as they bring them to upcoming meetings. No pressure.

February Meeting

Are you all winding your little balls for the Knit-Lit Friendship scarf. I can hardly wait to exchange yarn and start mine?

Just wanted to remind everyone that are meeting is not the second Tuesday like normal but Thursday February 12th.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about doesn't matter. If you like books or knitting come to our February meeting and learn all about us.

Cold January Meeting

We had a great turn out for such a cold night. As a whole we were not crazy about Death By Cashmere. It, as always, was fun to knit and talk about books. We signed up for the Knit-Lit Friendship Scarf yarn exchange. For those that signed up we will be bringing 13 balls of 33 yards. If you didn't sign up we are sorry you missed it but I'm sure we'll do it again. Maybe a yearly thing.

January Meeting

Our next meeting is January 13th and we will be reading Death by Cashmere by Sally Goldenbaum.

At our January meeting we will be signing up for our Knit-Lit Friendship Scarf yarn exchange. All who want to participate will sign up at the January meeting so each participant will know how many individual balls to bring. We will take the 420 yards it takes to makes a scarf and divide it by the number of participants and that will tell us how much yarn needs to be in each ball and how many balls. Then to the February meeting all who want to participate will bring the individually balls of worsted weight yarn with them. (The yarn of each little ball to be determined by how many want to participate) Then at the meeting we will put our rolled balls of yarn on a table. Each person who is participating will pick up one ball of each kind of yarn. Then we will take our balls of yarn and knit them into a scarf or mitten or hat or what ever you want. Maybe Stephanie will make a purse since she make wonderful little purses. There is no limit to when, what or how you use the yarn. In the end we will each have a special item, that we knit, that connects us to our Friends at Knit-Lit. There will not be any time pressure but we might want to bring them for show and share as we each finish.
